His movie career began in 1945 in "She Went To The Races" and continued into the late 1980s. Along the way his movie credits include "Christmas In Connecticut", "State Fair", "Carousel", "The Left Handed Gun", "The Cheyenne Social Club", "Support Your Local Gunfighter", "Airplane II", and "The Jagged Edge". John was a series regular appearing as Sy Bennett, the boss on "The Doris Day Show" from 1971-73. John made four visits to North Fork in different roles. One of the most memorable of these was "The Prisoner" on March 14, 1961. He played Major Aaron King who with another Confederate officer recognized Lucas from the time he served as a guard at the camp where they were prisioners of war. Major King(Dehner) now is deathly afraid of confined quarters and blames Lucas for their troubles in prison and plans revenge by confining Lucas to a man-made cage/prison cell. John Dehner died February 4, 1992 in Santa Barbara, California of emphysema and diabetes.
